It's a Vegan Raw Food Recipe Christmas

Happy holidays everyone. For Christmas I made several items from Alissa Cohen's "Living on Live Food," which I have owned for many, many years! Here are some pics of my raw, spouted lentils, germinated walnuts, and her book all ready to go for the recipes!

This was my first time making these recipes from her book:

"BBQ Chicken Fingers"

"Noasted Turkey" which is really just this amazing Raw Stuffing...

As you can see, I decorated it after dehyration, with parsley and some of the cranberry sauce. Beautiful Christmas color!

"Waldorf Salad" with a raw mayonnaise

I also made my own cranberry sauce which I perfected last year, and always make it for Thanksgiving and often Christmas too now.

I knew I wanted to do a big fresh picked arrugula salad as well, since I was inspired on Thanksgiving by June Louks beautiful arrugula salad from her garden. June let me pick some of her arrugula for the salad! Yum. I put a variation of my Creamy Pumpkin Seed Miso Dressing on it:

When I de-stemmed the arrugala, my brother's Malamute gladly ate the stems for me:

New Raw Food Recipe Book for Kids!

One of the best ways to love our children is to feed them truly nutritious food....and this book makes it easy!

Joanne is the clever mama who wrote the book and tested and tested and tested the recipes. Her girls, Arabella and Evangeline, were the inspiration behind it. Joanne is a freelance food- and travel-book editor, and the author of a children's recipe book called I'm Hungry, Let's Cook!. After she rediscovered the amazing taste and power of raw foods in 2007, she hunted for a raw-food recipe book for Evie and Bella, but realized there wasn't one! So she set about creating it... Go here to check it out!

My favorite new raw food dips....

These are my favorite new raw dips that you can get at health food stores in my area. Love them! Then we had to make new crackers to go with them, so I did my famous flax cracker recipe from my eBook and added some raw purple corn. They are INCREDIBLE!

I did about an hour and a half of serious gardening today in 100 degree heat, (global warming anyone?...it was 130 degrees in palm springs yesterday), so i was hungry and these dips with crackers hit the spot.

We just found the purple dip, it is a new flavor by a company we love, and I never would have thought of putting the ingredients together- but it is so delicious.

Here are some links for the dips!

Macadamia Tickled Cabbage Spread and Dip
Raw Basil Arrugula Pesto from Back to Life
Raw Vegan Gourmet Artisan Cashew Milk Cheese (This is soooo delectable and creamy! They ferment it with probiotics and it taste JUST LIKE cream cheese or sour cream dip! We tried the Peppercorn version this time that you see in the image. I couldn't find a link for this one, sorry.)

What to eat instead of a banana in your raw food smoothie

Here is my first video creation for you. Let me know what you think by leaving comments on YouTube and rating there as well! Also make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel so that you will be notified when I post a new video, as I will not be emailing every time I create a new video:-)...

This is just my first video about something kind of silly, but hey, sapotes are in season and I had them around! White sapotes are sooooooo much better than bananas....they are also known as "the chocolate fruit" because they taste like chocolate. They sweeten and thicken a smoothie much better than a banana too. Good luck finding them in your area. More coming soon! I am trying to finish my book right now which is first priority, but expect more fun videos by next year. Thanks everyone for taking the time to subscribe to my youtube channel and rate the video.

Thoughts From Within- Woody Harrelson Poetry

Do you know heaven in this moment?

What we have to realize and accept when we choose the raw vegan way of life longterm, is that in many ways we are going back to the way that mankind used to exist before fossil fuels, technology, and globalization. Back to a time when lots of time was spent daily on food rather than on driving, computers, television, and whatever else we do with our "free" time in the modern age. So I feel it is my duty, as a LifeFood Coach, to let you know that inevitably this is an issue you will have to address for yourself on the raw food path.

I also think that if more people understood this first, before beginning or in the beginning of learning a raw food lifestyle, then people would understand the bigger picture of how this lifestyle is about so much more than food. Then people would either have a stronger reason to be successful with it, or a clear choice that it is not for them. Because this lifestyle challenges the status quo on so many levels if one maintains it long term. This awareness from the beginning might save people a lot of confusion and turmoil.

This importance of this issue came to my awareness quite strongly after teaching a raw food workshop one spring day in 2006 to all women. Everyone loved the workshop, yet as soon as it was time to hit the kitchen---and I always make everyone get involved because that is how you learn-- I could almost hear a few silent moans- although they weren't actually released. But once everyone was in the kitchen it was great fun and they all enjoyed it. Then when it came time to eat, of course everyone was in bliss and there were absolutely no complaints!

In the modern world, it seems we want our food but we don't want to have to make it, nor do we want to pay much for it. Much of the population exists off of cheap subsidized foods- wheat, corn, soy, rice, and mass-produced animals. Another interesting issue is that many modern women want to feel that they have liberated themselves from the kitchen, and because I was teaching a a class for all women, perhaps that was another reason why I suddenly had an unexpected change of energy in the group once I asked them all to join me in the kitchen! That workshop was only $40 too, not $100 like most raw food workshops. But they still got a full gourmet meal, snacks, dessert, and the same amount of training and demonstration of how everything is made.

But here again are the 2 issues.... we want our food, but we want it cheap, we want it fast, and we don't want to have to spend 20 minutes in the kitchen washing and chopping to get it. Well somethings got to give, and unless you are filthy rich and able to pay someone to make healthy food for you, basically it means you need to take some time to do it yourself, or otherwise it is your health that gives.

And health truly is wealth! Just ask those that don't have it or that are losing loved ones to diseases that are largely preventable by diet and lifestyle or by relying on preventative medicine rather than western pharmaceutical companies.

A Day With Rawumptious Author June Louks

June Louks had a lovely raw food workshop today at her family's house in Malibu. We began the day picking food from her incredible gardens, then enjoying the picked berries and greens in smoothies, then an incredible raw lunch of recipes her and her family, and kitchen helper Olga, have created. All which appear in Rawumptious!

What a blessing it was to be there! I was in raw food heaven. Her children were such a treat to meet- all raw and primarily home-schooled and all quite talented! Then there was the eco-friendly house that she designed- (she formerly worked as an architect.) So I was in bliss too with that- as designing my own eco-friendly home is also a dream of mine.

I think in June I may have met somewhat of a "soulmate" as my husband and I are also raw, we also plan to have gardens, raw kids, an eco-friendly house, and are already busy spreading the deliciousness and bliss of the raw life! Meeting like-minded people is so powerful and important for living your life's purpose-- and today I have received a dose of this magic! Surround yourself with those that are on your same path -and nothing less than magic is the outcome.

I took some great photos, so I will include a few so you can see the lovely food, gardens, and of course the beautiful raw food diva herself, June Louks. Here is the website for her book:
rawumptiousrecipes.com which I highly, highly recommend! Thank you June from all of us who were lucky to be at your beautiful home today. Her next workshop is in September!
June picking lettuce for our salad.
Smelling the non-smelly compost!

June talking about the importance of greens in her transition to raw.

Stuffed red peppers and beet salad.
Raw Pizza with Sprouted Spelt Crust
Cucumber Salad and Avocado Slices for the Hummus/Buckwheat Crackers.

And as a final treat we got to hear beautiful songs as well as have an introduction to the yoga swing from her daughter Hailey!
